KOICA remodels computer lab in Anuradhapura
The Korea International Cooperation Agency said in a press release on
June 19, that the opening ceremony for remodelling the computer lab and
KOREA ZONE installation at the College of Technology,(CoT), in
Anuradhapura, was held at the college with the presence of the Principal
CoT Anuradhapura, Assistant Director, Department of Technical Education
and Training, (DTET ), Volunteer Affairs Director and staff of KOICA Sri
Lanka office.
Since the dispatch of Kim Jong Eun to CoT, Anuradhapura as an IT
instructor in January 2011 under “World Friends Korea (WFK) Overseas
Volunteer Programme,” he found it difficult to teach the computer
literacy course properly to students, due to outdated and low-quality
computers.
After a research for a period of 6 months and consultations with the
principal and staff of CoT, he finally was able to launch his
small-scale project, named as “Installation computer lab and KOREA
Zone,” in January 2012. The project was designed and completed in
cooperation with DTET and CoT Anuradhapura, under KOICA’s technical
cooperation scheme to Sri Lanka.
The modern computer lab is now equipped with new computers, monitors,
printers and other peripherals, so that CoT Anuradhapura, could provide
a better education environment to students on every subject and a higher
education level, including the level 4 computer course.
As part of the project, the New Korea Zone was established by Ms Kim
Mi Ra, deployed at the CoT as a Korean Language instructor on April
2011. To celebrate the completion to set up the Korea Zone, the Korean
Culture Day was held on May 23, for students to experience Korean
culture such as traditional costumes, games and foods. Under KOICA’s
volunteer programme, technicians and instructors with appropriate skills
and knowledge are dispatched to universities, schools and institutes in
Sri Lanka to conduct teaching and collaborative work with Sri Lankan
counterparts, on human resources development and capacity building for
local communities and institutions, the press release said |
