Muslims stood as one for territorial integrity of SL - Zuhair PC

Muslims’ contribution for the unity of Sri Lanka can never be forgotten; the government and the people of Sri Lanka appreciate the sacrifices made by Muslims for the unity and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka, said former Member of Parliament and former ambassador to Iran, President’s Counsel M M Zuhair.

Sri Lankans of all ethnicity while regretting the violence, appreciate the sacrifices made by the Muslims for the unity and territorial integrity of the country, said Zuhair who was the chief guest at the ‘Celebration of Excellence’ Prize Day of Hejaaz International School held at the Bishops’ College Auditorium on Saturday.

Muslims who served in the armed forces, mainly the Malay community, such as Muthalif, Lafir, Majeed and numerous others paid the supreme price in defending the country, he said.

The former Ambassador said the sacrifices, support and contributions are part of the history of modern Sri Lanka, which none can erase. The Muslim community stands out as one which stood in its entirety with the majority in resisting the division of the motherland, he said.

Muslim countries such as Pakistan, Iran and Libya were in the forefront, assisting the Sri Lankan government during those difficult days, Zuhair said.

“Today we celebrate the achievement of our students in the pursuit of excellence. The school which is now in its 19th year is committed to provide citizens who will excel in whatever they do, make a change and contribute towards making this world better”, Hejaaz International School Principal said.

Our school preserves the highest level of discipline not by patrolling the corridors with a cane, nor by lectures, but by actually promoting good behaviour, respect and responsibility at all times, Alhamuduliah, the Principal said.
