Chronic kidney disease research report out today

The Health Ministry yesterday announced, the results of the research on chronic kidney disease conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) will be released today at a special technical session at the ministry.

Chronic kidney disease is widely prevalent in ten villages in the North Central Province in Sri Lanka and a large number of deaths are reported due to this disease. A majority of the victims are in the 45-55 age group.

Several experts conducted experiments on the disease and presented various reasons such as, increase in cadmium percentage in drinking water, taking alcohol, smoking and consuming fresh water fish. But they have not been able to ascertain the real cause of the disease.
