Births and Marriages Registrar on bribery charge

The Embilipitiya Registrar of births and marriages was yesterday
produced before Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli on a bribery
allegation.
The suspect was taken into custody on a complaint from a naval rating
Amila Sanjeewa based at Naval Headquarters, Colombo for allegedly
soliciting and obtaining a sum of Rs. 600 to issue a birth certificate
to his son born at the Embilipitiya Base Hospital.
The birth certificate was to be based on the initial home address of
the complainant. S.I. Livera of the Commission to Investigate Bribery or
Corruption conducted the investigations. PS Chandrasiri prosecuted.
Further hearings were postponed for July 20.
