Abans staff observe Poson Poya in unique style
Staff of Abans Ltd., held their seventh annual Poson Dansala on
Havelock Road. The full day event was declared open by P.N. Pestonjee,
Director of Abans Group, and the evening session was declared open by
Mrs. Aban Pestonjee, Chairperson of Abans Group.
At the magnificient Dansala more than 10,000 plates of food were
served to members of the public throughout the day. Special guests who
attended the evening session of the Dhansala included Roshitha Rajapakse
and Dr. Lantha White.
For the first time, Abans organized a "Poson Sithuvili" Lantern
Competition at this event together with the Dansala.
All different departments of the various companies within the Abans
Group were allowed to collaborate in order to participate in the
competition. Cost efficiency and eco-friendliness seemed to be the
themes of the evening with several entries opting to build their
lanterns out of recycled materials. The lanterns were judged and the
winners determined by the Abans Board of Directors.
Abans Internal Audit Department and those on the Sixth Floor were
tied for third place. Both entries made creative use of recycled gunny
bags and jute rope respectively, in the building of their lanterns.
The Retail Accounts Department took 2nd place with a stunning and
lifelike rendering of a Buddhist temple, and the much coveted 1st place
went to the Credit Department who received Rs. 50,000 as their reward,
which they very generously donated back to the organizing committee for
next year's Dansala.
Standing out as the most unique and unorthodox entry of the
competition, the Credit Department chose to perform an eerie depiction
of "Apaya," acting out and displaying the many ways that one could be
punished for their misdeeds according to the Buddhist faith.
Abans Poson Dansala and Lantern Competition were organized by
Lalendra Brahamana, Deputy General Manager of Abans Wholesale and Dealer
Sales, and Mrs. Champika Sumanadasa, Senior Manager of Abans Personnel
Administration. Both events were organized as a part of Abans Corporate
Social Responsibility, in an effort to make a worthwhile contribution to
the community and the public.
They were also viewed as ways to cultivate teamwork, dedication and
positive ideas amongst Abans staff.
