National Business Excellence Awards 2012 launched

The prestigious bench mark event the National Business Excellence Awards (NBEA) 2012 was launched yesterday at Hilton Colombo to recognize the Sri Lankan businesses that contribute to the social economic development of the country.

Dr Uditha Liyanage, Asoka Hettigoda and Sunil Wijesinghe at the launch.

Speaking to the media at the launch, National Chamber of Commerce (NCCSL) President Asoka Hettigoda said this is the 9th successful consecutive year of this award and more significantly there will be 90 awards this year for the first time and hoped more blue chip companies will apply this year.

He said the NCCSL is launching the event one month earlier than last year giving ample time for companies to get prepared for the competition and the success will depends on past winners and the participants.

NBEA Committee Chairman Sunil Wijesinghe said the NCCSL want the companies to grow bigger and the committee will look for the company’s ability to sustain, in years to come.

Dr Uditha Liyanage, head of the panel of judges said NBEA uses the criteria such as business and financial performance, global reach, knowledge integration, technological investment,capacity building, performance management, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility to evaluate the performance of applicant companies.

Any business organization engaged in business in the areas of agriculture and plantation, banking and financial, construction, gem and jewellery, healthcare and related services, hospitality, CT services ,trading manufacturing, engineering, food and beverage, apparel, textile and leather, chemical and ceramic, other media services, diversified group of companies, infrastructure and utilities, logistic and transport for the last three years could apply for the competition provided they have audited accounts.

The selection of winners will be done by an expert panel of judges headed by Dr Uditha Liyanage . Application forms for the competition will be available at the NBEA Secretariat, National Chamber of Commerce.
