Jaffna Premier League cricket begins

Jaffna Premier League – Series of Cricket Matches commenced on 27th May 2012. This is the first time Twenty20 cricket matches have been organized in Jaffna. UR Friend Foundation has organized this tournament. Governor of Northern Province GA Chandrasiri participated as the Chief Guest and commenced the first match.

This is another step taken to promote short version cricket among the northern people. Minister of Child Development and Women's Affairs Tissa Karaliyadde participated as special guest. This year eight teams are playing to win the JPL Cup. Jolly Star, Johnians’ Sports Club, Patrician Sports Club, KCCC Sports Club, Grass Hoppers’ Sports Club, Manipay Parries, Centralities’ Sports Club and Jaffna Central Sports Club are the teams taking part at JPL. The first match was played yesterday between KCCC and Patricians. The match ended in a tie.
