Trinity in smashing 41-0 win over Joes

Trinity College had it easy when they scored a good 41 points (3 goals, 4 tries) to nil win over St Joseph's College, Maradana in their Schools Singer Shield under 19 Division one rugby tournament match played at the Trinity College, Rugby Stadium at Pallekele yesterday. At half time Trinity College led 24-0.

The Trinitians dominated all phases of play and the Josephians despite fielding a heavier pack could hardly put up any resistance. The Josephians on the other hand were awarded about five penalties chances of scoring ended there.

Trinity opened scoring in the fifth minute when centre Lochana Giribagama scored off a scrum and centre Thisila Karunatillake added the extra points. Trinity 7-0. In the 15th minute Trinity won a line out and the ball moved to the three quarters and Lochana Giribagama scored mid left and this went unconverted. Trinity 12-0. In the 27th minute Trinity College forged further ahead with their three quarters displaying fine form and winger Kanishka Yatawara scored near the post and Thisila Karunatillake failed to add the extra points trinity 17-0.

In the 37th minute of the this half Trinity's lock forward Randika Alwis retrieving the ball from a ruck ran nearly 35 metres to score near the post and Thisila Karunatillake added the extra points. Trinity 24-0.

After the turn around the Josephians offered some resistance to restrict the scoring and it was a matter of time before the lions resumed the scoring. In the 18th minute the Trinitians won a line out deep inside the Josephian territory and stand off Tharinda Ratwatte brezzed his way to score far right and this went unconverted. Trinity 29-0.

In the 20th minute the lions scored again when their three quarters were seen in motion and centre Thisila Karunatillake scored. This try too went unconverted.

In the dying stages of the game Trinity's full back Halique Wasood joined the three quarters to form the overlap to score far right and Thisila Karunatillake added the extra points.
