Police find skeletons in forest

Two skeletons of a man and a woman were found in a forest in Medayaya,Alikandura in Mahiyagana on Friday. Police found the remnants of the bodies when they searched the forest on information received via an informant.

Police also found two bags containing male and female belongings and two empty insecticide bottles at the scene. Investigations revealed the skeletons were of a young man and woman reported missing on April 18.

Police identified them as D M Samankumara 22, of Abekandura, Kuruwitenna and R W Dinusha Sandamali 18, of Balagolla, Meegahakula. Police said they led investigations regarding the complaints lodged at Mahiyangana and Kandeketiya police stations which stated the duo had gone missing on April 18. It was further revealed they had a personal relationship. Mahiyangana magistrate commenced investigation into the deaths. The skeletons were taken to the Badulla Hospital.
