Youth Affairs and Skills Development deputy Minister Duminda
Dissanayake appealed to the students not to forget their parents who
sweated and worked round the clock in canals and paddy fields to help
their children reach higher positions by sending them to universities.
He said leadership and personality development programmes will be
strengthened in future to mould physically and mentally strong graduates
to take up the management and administration responsibilities of the
country.
“The majority of university entrants in the North Central Province
are from low income group farmer families. To witness locally and
internationally renowned professionals who are products of rural schools
in the Rajarata, contribute to the development of the motherland is a
pleasure. One is not expected to join extremist groups in universities,
but become future intellectuals” the deputy Minister said at the
Mahapola Higher Education Scholarships handing over ceremony held at the
Anuradhapura CTC auditorium.
On this occasion, 410 - 2010/2011 university entrants from the
Anuradhapura district were awarded Mahapola scholarship documents.
The deputy Minister said President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s revolutionary
educational policies remedied the deteriorating position of the
university network and revived the prestigious level that once
prevailed.
Anuradhapura Government Agent Mahinda Seneviratne was also present at
the occasion. |
