Middlex SC overcame Brilliant SC by 6-5 at Badulla Sports Complex on
Saturday to enter the third round in the Holcim FA Cup.
Meanwhile Pelicans SC are waiting for the result against Upcountry
Lions due to an objection forwarded by Upcountry Lions over an
eligibility of two players from Pelicans, who are Lyberian nationals.
They defeated the latter by 4-0 at Gampola Zahira grounds on the same
day.
Earlier in the first round, Pelicans recorded a massive 18 - 0
victory over Fordyce SC from Dickoya to be the highest goal scores in
the tournament so far. Another encounter played in Mannar, St. Lucia's
SC beat Young Star SC of Batticaloa by five goals to one.St. Young Star
took the lead in the 14th minute of the game. But ten minutes later V.
R. J. Edison equalized and within five minutes F. Anthony gave the
Mannar side a 2-1 lead.
Edison again found the net twice for St. Lucia's and Anthony made it
a goal tally of five. New Star of Maligawatte scored an easy 4 goals to
nil over Old Mazenodians after leading one nil at half time at Gampaha
Sri Bodhi Ground. Thunders SC of Wattala, Moragasmulla SC, Red Star SC,
Sun Rice SC, Young Mates SC and Small Dryton SC also recorded victories
in the second round matches to enter the third round.
