Over 300 licences issued for Kelaniya gold mining

Over 300 licences were issued yesterday for gold mining in the Kelani River, Geological Survey and Mines Bureau chairman Dr N P Wijeyananda told the Daily News. He observed that issuing of licenses commenced last morning.

He noted that the identity, residence and Grama Niladari officer's letter produced by the applicant were considered when issuing the licences. He noted that the licence is valid for three months.

He said the GS& MB would constantly monitor the activities taking place at this site, once gold mining resumes.

He said three field officers have been deployed in this area for supervision, adding that more would be deployed if necessary in the future.
