Seetha Devi Sports Club became champions at the Kandy District Women's inter-club Hockey Tournament organised by the Kandy Sports Ministry when they beat Devians Sports Club 1-0 in the finals played at the University grounds, Peradeniya on Thursday.

Both teams had a number of national players and a gruelling battle for supremacy was witnessed.

After a scoreless first half the winners Seetha Devi Sports Club kept the pressure on inside their opponents territory and succeeded in breaching their defence when centre half and national player Chathurika Wijesuriya got past two defenders and drove in a snorters to beat Devians custodian all ends up.

Earlier in a key league match Devian Sports Club put up a fine performance to defeat University of Peradeniya by two goals to nil after leading 1-0 at the breather.

Centre forward Wathsala Jayasinghe scored both goals for Devians Sports Club.
