Fined for possessing blue film

A young man who was found guilty of having a blue film in his possession was fined Rs. 1,500 by the Dambulla District Magistrate S.J. Morawaka last week. The accused was P.D. Aruna Cyril, a resident of the Dambulla area.

He needs urgent help

Siriwardenage Nishantha Ajith Siriwardene (31), of Pahalawatta, Horangala, Uda Karawita in Nivithigala, is suffering from leukaemia. Consultant Oncologist Maharagama Cancer Institute, Dr. Dehan Gunasekera has recommended a bone marrow transplant to save his life. The surgery to be done abroad is estimated to cost nearly Rs. 5 million.

Siriwardene says he is married and unemployed due to his ill health. As such, he is unable to foot this bill due to his present financial plight.

He requests philanthropists and the public to assist his cause by sending whatever financial contributions possible to help expedite surgery and save his life.

'The Lady' again at ICES

A repeat show of the film 'The Lady," the story of Aung San Suu Kyi as she becomes the core of Burma's democratic movement will be shown again at the ICES Auditorium, 2, Kynsey Terrace, Colombo 8, at 3.00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29.

Computer lab opening

The opening ceremony of the computer lab - 11 Isha Athul Islam Home for Orphans of Darga Town today at 10.30 a.m.

Chairman Al-Haj M. Z. M. Badiudeen, JP, will preside. Al-Haj. A. H. M. Azwer MP will be the Chief Guest. Al-Haj. M. S. M. Aslam MP, Al-Haj. A. M. Yoosuf MPC, Al-Haj. M. M. M. Amjad MPC will be the Guests of Honour.

Diamond Jubliee walk

A walk to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Al Hikma College Colombo 12, will be held today at 8.30 a.m under the patronage of principal K.M. M. Nalir. Western Provincial and Municipal Councillors and members of SDS, PPA, SDC and students and teachers will participate. The walk is to begin from the school premises.
