Atapattu wins All Island Stage of President’s Cup

C. Atapattu of the Ramance Pool Parlour emerged winner of the second
Automobile Association President’s Cup Snooker Championship’s all island
stage beating M. M. Mubeen of the Moors Islamic Cultural Home in a
closely contested final by four frames to three (68/43, 48/41, 58/43,
51/63, 14/58, 3/53, 68/59) worked off at the AA pool parlour yesterday.
Atapattu qualified for the final after beating W. M. Naushad in a
hard fought semi-final 3-2 (3/58, 75/2, 24/56, 63/58, 62/30) while
Mubeen had no trouble in defeating M. R. Noor in straight sets (55/52,
58/56, 59/7) in the other semi final to book his final berth.
Meanwhile W.M Naushad won the third place beating M.R. Noor 2-1.
Altogether 119 cueists participated in the all island level and top 16
players have qualified for the National level where they will meet the
23 cueists who are already in the National level.
The President’s Cup National level commenced yesterday morning with
39 top level players battling for supremacy on the AA tables. The final
will be played on May 27.
