Family evading settling hotel bill arrested

Horana Police yesterday arrested four persons from the same family who tried to evade paying the hotel bill after staying at a rest house at Horana for several months.

Investigations revealed that the family had stayed at the rest house for several months. When said to pay the dues, the family had attempted to escape. The Horana special crime investigations branch arrested them at Horana.

One day old infant found

Jaffna Police found an abandoned baby girl in a deserted land in Rachchamotei, Pasoor on Monday.

The days old infant was admitted to Jaffna Hospital. Jaffna Police are investigating.

Arrested with heroin

A person was arrested with 20.10 grams of heroin near a private hospital at Kandana on Monday. The suspect , a resident of Kelaniya was to be produced before the Wattala Magistrate's court yesterday. Kandana Police are investigating.

Kidnappers arrested

Four suspects were arrested in connection with kidnapping a woman and her son on Saturday, by Udugama Police. Police also seized a hand grenade from their possession.

The suspects had broken into a house at Udalamatta and kidnapped a 28- year- old woman and her two year and six month old baby boy and demanded a Rs 500,000 ransom. Police later found them at Megahagoda, Ahangama. The suspects were remanded until May 24 when produced before the Udugama Magistrate.

Gas victim dies

A woman died at the Negombo Hospital on Monday after six days of treatment following a gas leak at a soap manufacturing company at Koswatta.

Nineteen workers including two men were admitted to Dankotuwa Hospital on May 15 after becoming unconscious following a gas leak at the factory.

Police identified the victim as E M Somalatha of Wariyapola. Koswatte Police are investigating.
