Traditional paddy varieties to be cultivated

The Agrarian Services Development has planned to cultivate
traditional varieties of paddy on 413 acres of abandoned paddy fields in
the Meda-Uyangoda area in the Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat Division.

P.D.D. Perera, 75, of No. 1201, Nawa Padeniya Road, Dambulla is
reported missing from January 14. He was five feet and four inches in
height. Perera was of fair complexion and his hair cut short.

Launch of Neethiya volume 21
The first copy of Volume 21 of Neethiya, the only law journal in
Sinhala will be presented to Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake on May
24 in her chamber.
The new volume includes articles on a variety of topics on the law,
written by specialists, notes on recent court decisions and statutes,
legal news, tables of cases and other contents.
The journal will be available at the offices of the Neethiya
Foundation (2862233/2883282) and of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL)
and Law College bookshops.
Lecture
The lecture 'Out of Africa and the Significance of the South Asian
Archaeological Record' by University of Oxford Human Evolution and
Prehistory Professor Prof Michael D Petraglia will be delivered on May
24 at 5pm at the Gamini Dissanayake Auditorium, 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy
Mawatha, Colombo 7. All are welcome
Yart'12 youth camp
The Yart'12 youth artwork (painting) creations camp organized by the
National Youth Corps to mark National Youth Day will be inaugurated by
Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma at the
Independence Square, Colombo on May 24 at 8 am. Nearly 300 youth
belonging to both sexes will participate.
Sinhala recitation contest
A Sinhala recitation contest based on the Rev W Jacob Wijesinghe's 'Kaw
Ama Watura' will be organized by the Colombo YMCA for youth below the
ages of 14 years, 17 years, and 22 years as on June 30, 2012. There will
be two separate contests for boys and girls. The rules for the contest
and entry forms are available with the Youth Department, Colombo YMCA,
39, Bristol Street, Colombo 1. Entries close on Friday, June 22, 2012.
Speech contest
The Colombo YMCA speech contest based on Sir Edwin Arnold's 'The
Light of the World' will be held on July 7 (semi finals) and July 14
(finals). The contest is open to students below the age of 18 years.
Entries will close on June 15, 2012. Entry forms can be obtained from
the Youth Department, Colombo YMCA, No. 39, Bristol Street, Colombo 1.
Lecture
A lecture sponsored by the Royal Asiatic Society Sri Lanka (RASSL) on
"Out of Africa and the Significance of the South Asian Archaeological
Record" by Oxford University Human Evolution and Prehistory Prof.
Michael D. Petraglia will be held at the Gamini Dissanayake Auditorium,
No. 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7 on May 24 at 5 p.m.
