'Let Mihintale be free of polythene'

Pilgrims visiting Mihintale during the Poson season have been warned to desist from bringing polythene and polythene bags into the sacred area.

The Poson festivities committee which has issued this warning said polythene and other litter discarded by pilgrims in the sacred area damaged the beauty and sanctity of the place and caused environmental pollution as experienced during past poson seasons.

The warning was issued by the committee at a meeting presided by its Chairman Anuradhapura GA Mahinda Seneviratne.
