Ten-year-old Thulhina Madugalle of Colombo International School,
Kandy Branch is a very promising athlete and if he maintains his present
promise, he should go very far in this sport.

At last week's Kandy Zonal Athletic Championship he clinched the
double of becoming champion in both track and field events in the under
11 age group category and received two awards from the Chief Guest and
Governor of Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.
He was the best performer in boys under 11 - 100 metres with a timing
of 15.4 seconds with a IAAF points rating of 40. In the field events too
he was the best performer as he cleared a distance of 3.82 metres in the
long jump and this gave him a IAAF rating of 275.
Last year was the beginning of his career and in the inter
International Schools Meet held in Colombo he was second in both 80
metres and long jump and since then he has made remarkable progress.
Some of his other good performances are at the Kandy District
Athletic Meet held in 2011, he won both his track events of 50 metres
and 75 metres and was adjudged the Best Athlete in the Under 11
category.
In the year 2010 before he had reached his teens in the under 10 age
group championship at the International Schools Athletic Championship he
was placed first in both long jump and 80 metres and was adjudged the
Best Athlete. The same year at the Kandy District Junior Athletic
Championship he was placed first in long jump and 50 metres in the under
10 age group category.
This budding athlete should be trained and his skills sharpened for
him to make the grade in the future. |
