Amara an asset for Lankan athletic scene

A promising differently abled athlete from Monaragala, L.P.G.Amara
Indumathi Karunathilaka bagged three Gold medals at the Asian Para
Athletic Games at Malaysia, winning the 100m, 200m and long Jump events
to bring honour to Sri Lanka.

This depicts a big achievement of Amara in the long run of her sport
life. It is a remarkable achivement for a disabled athlete to bag three
gold medals at such an international event, yet Amara was lucky enough
to fulfill her long felt dream that lingers in her heart.
Amara spared time from her hectic schedule to reveal her life story
to Daily News. She said that she was born sans the forearm of her left
hand, in Mariarawa, a very remote area in Madulla Divisional Secretariat
area Monaragala. After her O/Ls at Mo/Mariarawa MV she joined Rehablanka
Garment to work. Later, identifying her athletic skills, director of the
company, Premadasa introduced her to Slimlime Garment Co. Ltd. Pannala
where she could practice and sharpen her athletic skills with modern
techniques under coach Chaminda Sampath whom she mentions with sense of
gratitude. She participated in Asian Athletic Games (para) in
Kualalumpur and China in 2006 and 2010 respectively and bagged Bronze
Medals in 100m event.
Amara's skills were recognized at a welcome ceremony at Monaragala
Madulla Divisional Secretariat office with the guidance and direction of
