Nation commemorates Victory Day today
The nation will commemorate the third anniversary
of totally vanquishing terrorism in the country, at a solemn
ceremony to be held at Galle Face Green today under President
Mahinda Rajapaksa’s patronage . Over 12,828 personnel and 852
officers representing the Tri forces, the Police and the Civil
Defence Force will participate in the Victory Day parade,

Court acquits appellant in police shooting case
The Court of Appeal yesterday set aside the
sentence imposed by the Anuradapura High Court on a chena cultivator
for discharging a firearm at a policeman and gravely wounding him .
The court acquitted and discharged the accused appellant. The Bench
comprised Justices Sarath de Abrew and H Nalin J Perera.
