Sri Lanka cricket commenced work on 12 center wickets at the
Uyanwatta cricket ground Matara. Uyanwatta has been proposed as the
venue for practice matches and practices for teams participating in the
womens T-20 world cup to be played at the Galle International Cricket
Ground in September 2012.
Sri Lanka cricket's national curator Anuruddha Polonnowita and
Assistant national curator D A J Sampath were in Matara personally
supervising the laying of the pitches. Four practice side wickets will
be laid in addition to the 12 center wickets.
Matara Mayor Sosindra Handunge agreed to a request made by Sri Lanka
Cricket Chairman Upali Dharmadasa and Matara District Cricket
Association President Dr Ajith Ranawaka to permit Sri Lanka Cricket to
give the Uyanwatta Cricket Ground a face-lift to bring it up to the ICC
standards.
Sri Lanka cricket is to spend Rs 20 million on upgrading the
Uyanwatta ground. |
