Govt will strengthen free education, health services - Minister

The government always stands to safeguard and strengthen free
education and free health services in the country. In other countries
these are not free, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister
Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.

He was addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the 23rd
maternity clinic at Mahagammadda, Payagala in Beruwala recently.
The minister also laid the foundation stone for a building with two
storeys. The project will cost Rs 6.1 million.
Minister Senaratne also opened the newly built medical clinic in
Beruwala and handed over the required equipment.
"Sri Lanka Sama Samaja Party (SLSSP) is the first political party
which requested free education and health services to Sri Lanka.
Political parties which later came into power from time to time
continued to grant these privileges to Sri Lankans," the minister added.
"Medical and maternity clinics are important to those living in rural
areas. The main responsibility of these clinics is providing essential
facilities for pregnant mothers. They are the people who produce the
next generation of the country," the minister said.
All infrastructure facilities in the Beruwala district are to be
completed within the next two years and all measures are in place to
eradicate the unemployment problem from Beruwala, he said.
Provincial Council Minister Piyal Nishantha, Members of Beruwala
Pradeshiya Sabha Nandana Weerasekara and H R R Ranjith also
participated. |
