Ceremonies to mark former Speaker's birth anniversary

Elaborate arrangements have been made to commemorate the 95th birth anniversary of former Speaker M A Bakeer Markar which falls tomorrow.

The main M A Bakeer Markar commemoration lecture will be delivered by Prof K N O Dharamadasa at the Postal Department auditorium at D R Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo on May 11 at 4pm.

The SLBC too has arranged to broadcast several commemorative lectures on its Sinhala, Tamil, English and Muslim services on May 12.

A lecture on the SLBC Sinhala National Service will be delivered by Parliamentarian Ranjith Maddumabandara at 9.45pm, lecture on the Tamil service will be delivered by former Trade Minister A RM Munsoor at 7pm, lecture on the English service by former Export Development Minister Rajah Samaranayake at 6.50pm and the lecture on the Muslim service will be delivered by Alhaj M D Mahir at 8.05pm.
