Sand transport rules relaxed

Regulations on sand transport have been relaxed with effect from
yesterday, Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said.
The minister was making a statement in Parliament yesterday.
The minister said the Cabinet at the last meeting on May 9, decided
to permit the transportation of sand without a licence from 6am to 6pm.
The decision was taken to minimise irregularities and corruption in
mining and sand for construction and reduce sand price, the minister
said. |
