"Caltex Road Safety Campaign", an islandwide mass media campaign, conceptualized by Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC in collaboration with Sri Lanka Traffic Police was launched on recently in a bid to make Sri Lanka an accident free society. The road safety campaign comes under the motto "Drive Wise and Embrace Life".

The campaign was conceptualized following its previous campaign "Clatex Road star" which was a dedicated programme to identify and reward responsible motorists across the country .

Speaking at the event, Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC Managing Director/CEO Kishu Gomes said , "Cehvron has mooted this initiative in an effort to positively change reckless driving and commuting behaviours that are increasingly prevalent in the country.

According to Sri Lanka Traffic Police sources, total number of accidents per day in Sri Lanka amounts to 112 while total number of fatal accidents per day is 6.

I think, this move is timely and Chevron will initiate an islandwide mass media campaign, with the electronic and print media in coming days.

The main vehicles that cause fatal roads accidents are motor cycles, lorries , private buses and three wheelers.

High speeding driving causes over 5500 accidents per year.

In 2010, a total number of road accidental deaths were 2630 while this number increased to 2684 in 2011.
