Anandians trounce Benedictines 74-3

Ananda College Colombo scored an easy win beating St.Benedicts
College 74 (7 goals, 5 tries) to three (a penalty) in their Singer
Schools Under 20 League match played at the Air Force Grounds Ratmalana,
yesterday.
Anandians scored their first goal with the help of N.W.R.Mahawatte
soon after the match started which was successfully converted by
D.D.A.C.Hemaratne. N.W.R.Mahawatte contributed with another unconverted
try. Both, I.Wickramasinghe's and S.D.Hettiarachchi's tries were
converted by G.S.Dilshan while S.D.Hettiarachchi's try was converted by
P.A.C. Dushyantha.
St.Benedict's College were only able to score a penalty, by
V.A.Fernando. Ananda were leading 33 – 3 at half time.
In the second half, Ananda players played hard.
Their strong tackling and sound defence helped them to score more
points in the second half too. G.S.Dilshan was the first Anandian to
score a try in the second half. All three tries by Mahawatte in the
second half were converted by Hemaratne which helped to lift their
second half scores to 41 – 0. P. A. C. Dushyantha, I.Wickramasinghe and
R.Kurusinghearachchi scored a try each in the second half.
The Benedictine failed to offer any resistance in the second half as
their defence failed to cope with the pressure exerted by the Anandians.
Ananda College will meet Maliyadeva College on May 18 in Kurunegala
at 4.00 PM.
