Police Log

Man stabbed to death

A body of a man who had been stabbed to death was found by the Police at his home in Seeduwa on Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as 27-year-old G S S Pushpakumaraa of Dambathuraya, Seeduwa. Seeduwa Police have commenced investigations to nab the suspects in connection to the murder.


Woman arrested for child's death

A six-year-old child, Manoj, who was seriously injured when a woman attacked him with a stone, succumbed to his injuries at the Badulla Hospital on Tuesday.

Police arrested the woman on May 4 at Kithalawatta Tamil school premises.

The woman was remanded until May 18 by the Bandarawela magistrate.

Ella Police are investigating.


Collision injures train driver, assistant

A train - truck collision near the Kalutara North railway station on Tuesday resulted in injuring the engine driver and his assistant while those who were in the truck escaped unhurt.

The incident occurred when the truck crossed the railway crossing despite the oncoming Matara bound Maradana train. The driver and his assistant were injured when a gas tube in the engine exploded.

They were admitted to the Nagoda Hospital.

Police assisted to transport the passengers of the train.

Kalutara North Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist died on the same day after being knocked down by a train plying from Chilaw to Colombo.

Police said the victim, Ronald Priyanjana of Madampe, succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Chilaw Hospital.


Netted for possessing seagull nests

Two persons in possession of seagull nests, were fined Rs 30,000 each by the Kandy magistrate on Tuesday.

Nanu Oya Police said the suspects had illegally removed the nests built on the walls of the Radalla train tunnel on the Badulla - Colombo rail track.


Four nabbed while packing heroin

Three persons and a woman were arrested with a stock of heroin while they were packing the drugs inside a lodge in Malwana on Tuesday.

Police also seized an electronic scale and polythene packets used to packet the heroin.

The suspects were produced before the Mahara magistrate yesterday.


Indian national electrocuted

A 62-year-old Indian expatriate working in a private steel factory in Meerigama, died of electrocution at his workplace on Tuesday.

Police identified the deceased as M Kumar Malik.

His body has been sent to Wathupitiwala Hospital morgue.

Meerigama Police are investigating.


Woman arrested with cannabis

A woman was arrested with 1.736 kgs of cannabis in Boraluhinna in Medawachchiya on Monday.

The suspect, a resident of Mahakanadawawa, was remanded until May 22 by the Medawachchiya magistrate.
