Vesak envelops N'Eliya

Vesak celebrations in the Nuwara Eliya district centered around dansalas and decorations. Buddhists and Hindus celebrated the event with devotion and performed religious rituals both in Buddhist and Hindu temples.

The Annual Sri Muthumariamman Temple festivals coincided with the Vesak celebrations, where three colourful chariots were taken in procession along main streets of Nuwara Eliya. Hundreds of devotees offered Poojas.

Other main Hindu festivals were held in all temples around plantations. The main pooja was held at Gayathiri Peetam where both Hindus and Buddhists participated in 'Yagams'. Malaysian devotees also participated.

The main Dansala was held at the Economic Centre in Nuwara Eliya.
