Boys and girls hockey nationals at Matale

The annual boys and girls hockey nationals organised by the Matale District Schools Hockey Association and the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association will be worked off at Nandamithra International Hockey Stadium and Edward Park, Matale from May 10 (Thursday) to 13 (Sunday). The best school boy and schoolgirl stickers will be seen in action at this championship.

The defending champion for boys is Matale schools while for girls are Kandy schools. The participating teams for the championship for boys are Matale schools, Colombo schools “Reds” and “Golds”, Kandy schools “Blues” and “Whites”, Wennahapuwa schools,’ Kalutara schools, Galle schools, Matara schools, Badulla schools, Gampaha schools.

The teams which will be seen in action in the championship for girls are Kandy schools “Whites” and “Blues”, Colombo schools “Golds” and “Reds”, Badulla schools, Matale schools, Galle schools. Kandy Schools and Colombo will be fielding two teams each as they have a larger representation of schools.

Matale Schools though known as “Cradle” of hockey will be fielding just one team each as a lesser number of schools compared to Colombo and Kandy are playing the game.
