Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry Secretary Dr
Damitha de Zoysa was nominated and elected as the Vice Chairperson of
the next biennium at the Compliance Committee's ninth session of the
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission's (IOTC) 16th session held in Freemantle,
Australia from April 18 to 20, 2012.
Her nomination was proposed by Australia and seconded by France.
Sri Lanka became a member state of the IOTC in October 1996. Dr de
Zoysa led the delegation to the 16th session of the IOTC held from April
22 to 26, 2012 at the same venue.
Roberto Cesari of the European Union was nominated and re-elected as
the chairman for the next biennium of the CoC.
The nomination of Dr de Zoysa as Vice-Chairperson of the CoC for the
next biennium was proposed by Ann Willock, representative from Australia
and seconded by Nicolas Gorodestka, head of delegation of France.
