Japan to provide technical know-how in fisheries

Japanese Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Michihiki Kano agreed to provide modern technological training for Sri Lankan fisheries industrialists, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne said.

Minister Senaratne had made an official visit to Japan recently and met a number of prominent persons including cabinet ministers and Tuna King Kiyoshi Kiyomura.

According to a spokesman, Minister Senaratne met Japanese Minister Kano at the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry in Japan, and discussed strengthening mutual ties.

Minister Kano expressed his pleasure on Sri Lanka's achievements as a developing country.

He said Japan is ready to grant assistance to development programmes of Sri Lanka in every field.

He said training will be provided for fisheries industrialists of Sri Lanka to help develop the industry. Minister Senaratne invited minister Kano to visit Sri Lanka.

Colombo National Hospital Acting Director Dr.Sujatha Senaratne, Japan Sri Lanka Counsel General and Japan Sri Lanka Traditional and Trade Centre Chairman Sunil M. Gamage, General Secretary former MP Kaneko Zenigiro and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry Media Secretary Narendra Rajapakse also participated in the meeting.
