Speaker visits Lumbini

"The messages of Gautama Buddha would be materialized by the development of Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, said Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa on Sunday. He said the messages of the Buddha should be spread across the world.

Addressing a programme to mark the Buddha Jayanti in Lumbini, Rajapaksa said spreading the Buddha Dhamma at international level could help develop Lumbini.

He expressed confidence that the Visit Lumbini Year-2012 would help promote Lumbini at the international level.

He said Sri Lanka was ready to join hands with Nepal for the development of Lumbini adding that both countries share harmonious cultural relations.

He said the arrival of Sri Lankan tourists in Nepal could increase if peace and stability was maintained.

Chamal Rajapaksa who arrived in Lumbini on Saturday also visited the Mayadevi Temple.
