Several dansal banned due to health risk

The Public Health Inspectors’ (PHI) Association had inspected a large
number of dansal islandwide during the Vesak season and had banned
several due to their unclean surroundings and serving food of
questionable quality, PHI Association chairman Upul Rohana said.
According to the chairman, PHIs inspected 7,112 dansal islandwide.
They reported that food served in 192 such dansal were not suitable
for consumption with even the risk of food poisoning to their patrons.
The Health Ministry had informed the public willing to hold dansal in
the Vesak season to register with the Provincial Councils to ensure
clean food is served at the dansal.
However, only 5,123 dansal registered following Health Ministry
instructions while the other 1,989 had failed to do so. The 192
sub-standard dansal organisers were warned by the PHI Association during
inspections.
In addition, 37 dansal were ordered to destroy their food due to the
food being unfit for human consumption, Rohana said.
The PHI Association urged dansal organisers to be more careful about
the condition of the food items served to the public.
