Ramal Jasinghe acclaims PIMA Platinum Honours

Ramal Jasinghe, Director/CEO of Asian Alliance Insurance PLC
acclaimed the prestigious Platinum Honours awarded by the Post Graduate
Institute of Management Alumni (PIMA) of Sri Jayewardenepura University,
at the PIMA Platinum Award Ceremony held on April 27, 2012 at the Earl's
Court, Cinnamon Lakeside. The event was held under the theme, "Setting
the pace for challenges ahead".
PIMA Platinum Honours was awarded to Jasinghe in recognition of his
invaluable contribution towards the corporate sector and the society at
large over the years. This is the flagship event of the PIMA calendar,
which recognizes and encourages the service of the PIM graduates who
have become the trailblazers and set benchmarks in their respective
fields whilst rendering their support towards uplifting the society.
With over 30 years of experience in the field of marketing and
management, which includes over 17 years in the insurance sector,
Jasinghe entered management early in his youth by holding office in
National Sports Controlling Bodies for Surf Life Saving and Aquatic
Sports. At 21, he was probably the youngest Honorary General Secretary
to serve in a National Sports Controlling Body; thereafter proceeding to
hold office as Vice President at the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU)
in the Olympic Games 2000.
Jasinghe began his mercantile career in the manufacturing industry
and thereafter in Industrial Marketing including the Agro Chemical
industry. A trained Chemist, Mr. Jasinghe holds an MBA from the
University of Sri Jayewardenepura and is a Chartered Marketer; Fellow of
The Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK and the Academy of Marketing
Sciences, USA. He has participated in Top Management and Strategic
Management programs at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad and
Stanford University, Palo Alto, California, USA.
He currently holds office in the capacity of President of the
Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL), the trade representative body
of the industry, and serves in the Management Committee and Council of
the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE), Financial System Stability
Consultative Committee (FSSCC) of the Central Bank, and Committee of the
Leadership of the Approved Associations of the Ceylon Chamber of
Commerce.
Accepting the award, Jasinghe stressed, "Apart from the
responsibility that PIMA members and award recipients bear in sharing
knowledge gained at the PIM, that in addition we need to build character
within our workplaces and bring about character in all our dealings, as
wealth creation without character is worthless.
Quoting from the great financier JP Morgan, when asked about who he
would lend money to, "The first thing is character. A man I do business
with could not get money from me on all the security in the world if he
doesn't possess character!"
