As a preparation for the forthcoming Asian Netball Championship 2012 which is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in August, the Sri Lanka National Netball Team will leave for Perth, Australia today to take part in training for two months. The team met Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage at the Sports Ministry. Spot-fixing convict Asif due for release on May 5a

Pakistan's former paceman Mohammad Asif is expected to be released from a British prison on May 5 after completing half his one-year sentence for spot-fixing during the 2010 Lord's Test against England, a friend and cricket coach said Tuesday.

Josephian-Peterite rugby match on May 4

The postponed Singer Schools Rugby League Segment one match for the Father Basil Wiratunga Shield between St.Joseph's and St.Peter's will be played on May 4 (Friday) at St.Peter's Grounds Bambalapitiya.The match which was scheduled to be played on April 20 at the same venue had to be postponed due to a water-logged ground and lightning.

Sachin Tendulkar says cricket comes first

Batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar said Tuesday he was “honoured” to be nominated to India's parliament but stressed that cricket would remain his priority as long as he keeps playing. Last week, Tendulkar was offered one of the 12 seats in the upper house of parliament that are reserved for those who have distinguished themselves in various fields such as the arts, sciences or social services.
