Robin Van Persie - commander of Arsenal
Samaha ISMATH ALI
Players from all around the world are chosen for football leagues
located in various countries depending on their playing skills and
International player performances.
They have been commended by many as great players who submit their
hearts and souls to their teams. Careful selections have been made as to
which team will buy the players, and today we see the popularity of
these players rising due to their Premier League exposure. This section
focuses on such recognized players and gives an in-depth of their
successful careers.
Hailing from the Netherlands, van Persie is one of the International
team's major assets. He has been a good scorer, great teammate and an
International pride. Being the son of two artists, he was encouraged by
his parents to follow up with the trade but Robin decided to take up
what his heart led him towards: Football. This decision of his is still
appreciated as he is a valuable player not only towards his nation, but
also towards the club he plays for: Arsenal.
The lad was signed up by Arsene Wenger on a four-year deal back in
2004. However, the deal seems to have expanded as such a player could
not be sold off so easily. "My heart is with Arsenal and I just can't
picture myself in a different shirt", was what Persie had stated back in
2010, and this bond has made him Arsenal's reigning star. In 2010,
Persie suffered from an ankle injury that made him inactive for a very
long period. It was during this period that Arsenal depended on their
other players but still felt the team was empty without van Persie.
Anyone can imagine the looks of relief and the light of hope when he
came back, and the team was in full swing again.
This season 2011-12 has made Persie look almost like a monopoly, and
a one-man-show of Arsenal's. Spluttering Arsenal have been lagging
behind all season, and van Persie has been their ray of hope, being the
player with the most amount of goals scored in the English Premier
League.
With the sale of Cesc Fabregas, Persie had all responsibilities on
his shoulders. He was appointed as Captain of the side who had lost all
of their former famous creativity. However, Arsenal maintained some of
their vigour because of Persie. After Fabregas quit Arsenal, van Persie
became the star of the formerly-creative side, and was also a source of
inspiration to the side filled with younger players.
The Netherlands indeed found him to be a useful player who undertook
his playing seriously. He was quickly the centre of attraction and won
the hearts of his International side, for which he had provided his
heart and soul to. Arsenal have moulded him into the character he has
become today, and he is currently the highest goal scorer for the side,
having scored 27 goals, with Manchester United Star Wayne Rooney hot on
his tracks with 26 goals.
Though predictions were made some time ago that Arsenal would be
relegated this season; their worries were loosened with van Persie's
confidence.
The Dutch Master at Arsenal was named the Football Writers'
Association Player of the Year, and this indeed is a prestigious award
to his hat of feathers in different shades.
That's right. Arsenal are not calling it quits. They have van Persie
on their lead; as their mentor, and though this season was not a lucky
one for them, Arsenal will make a great comeback next season, with van
Persie as the commander of their Army. |
