Sleepers theft: suspect held

Matara police anti-vice squad officials arrested a suspect who allegedly stole a consignment of wooden sleepers which were removed from the Matara-Colombo railway line at Udupila, Mirissa recently.

Police also detected two sleepers worth Rs 16,000 hidden in the store room of the suspect's residence.

The suspect was to be produced before the Matara magistrate.
