Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal said he will shortly
respond to the false charges levelled by the Opposition that the economy
has collapsed, to mislead the public.
Cabraal who is among the Presidential delegation to South Korea, in a
telephone interview with the Dinamina said he rejects the false claims
by the Opposition Leader and MPs that the Central Bank report was a
statistical hoax and the per capita income had been calculated on a
wrong basis.
"The economy recorded a six percent growth from 2005 to 2010 and for
the first time in post independent Sri Lanka, an eight percent growth
was achieved in 2010 and 2011," he said. The Central Bank Governor said
the fruits of this growth were being enjoyed by the whole country. He
said he would commence a programme to counter the wrong perceptions
given about the economy in relation to economic growth , budget deficit,
inflation, unemployment ratio, foreign reserves, investment, etc so that
the true facts will be placed before the public. |
