Yasaratne GAMAGE

A man was arrested by Galle Police with a locally made shot gun at Manuwandeniya in Yakkalamulla on Monday. Police said the gun can be loaded with five T56 bullets. He was handed over to Yakkalamulla police. Another suspect was arrested with parts of a locally made shot gun at Rabukketiya by Nawalapitiya Police yesterday.


Statue recovered

Omanthei Army arrested a man with a 'god Kubera ' statue made from an unknown metal, while he was transporting it in a private bus that was plying from Jaffna to Colombo. The Army found the 1.5 feet tall statue weighing 28 Kg was detected while being transported in a bus at a check point in Omanthai. The suspect was handed over to Omanthai police. He was to be produced at the Vavuniya magistrate's court yesterday.


Two arrested with stolen motorbikes

Two persons who had stolen motorbikes were taken into custody by Kochchikade police. Police seized seven motorbikes in their possession and are looking for another suspect connected with the theft. The arrested two suspects were to produced at the Negambo magistrate's court .


Eight passengers injured

Eight passengers were injured when a private bus ran off the road and turned turtle at Manikkawlapida junction in Omanthai last morning. The injured passengers, seven men and a woman were admitted to the Vavuniya hospital. Police said around 30 passengers were inside the bus when the incident occurred. Omanthai police are investigating.


Two nabbed

A woman , who attempted to leave the country using another person's passport was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by Foreign Employment Bureau (FEB) officers on Monday.

They also found another person, a resident of Wellampitiya from whom the woman had sought help for the illegal act. They were both handed over to Katunayake BIA police. The woman , a resident of Pitakotte was granted bail by Negambo Magistrate while the man has been remanded till May 7.Katunayake BIA Police are investigating.


Arrested with heroin

A man was arrested with 3.12 grams of heroin at Angoda on Monday by STF officers. The suspect was handed over to the Anti Narcotics Bureau for legal procedures. Another suspect has been remanded till May 3 by the Galle Magistrate for possessing 7.11 grams of heroin.

He was arrested by Galle Police at the Gintota bridge while transporting the heroin.
