Warning: seas rough today

The Meteorology Department yesterday requested fisheries and naval
communities to be vigilant since Western, South-western and Southern sea
areas would be rough today.
Department duty forecaster Chaminda de Silva said there would be
occasional showers or thundershowers in the sea areas off the
North-western, Western, South-western and Southern coasts.
He said the upper air disturbance which affected the weather is
moving away. De Silva however said thundershowers would develop over
most parts of the island during the afternoon or evening as it is still
in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.
The department requested the public to take adequate precautions to
minimise damages caused by lightning activities. De Silva noted that few
showers could be expected particularly along the South western coastal
areas during the morning too.
“There may be temporary localised fairly strong winds during
thundershowers,” he said. Meanwhile, Irrigation Department Director
General Dr G G A Godaliyedda said the six sluice gates of Weheragala
reservoir were opened up to three inches yesterday. He said about 10
tanks and reservoirs have reached spill level.
