Adding glamour, rhythm and zest to the April Festive season,
Dancefest 2012 dance-championship is expected to get underway at
Galadari Hotel later this month. The event promises to be an
exhilarating one, as competitors are expected to showcase their vibrant
moves in Ballroom, Latin American and Salsa dance categories. The event
is organized by Lanka Dancesport Council together with Footwork events.
The Galadari will host the event on April 29 with preliminary rounds
starting at 3 pm and finals and the main show starting at six thirty in
the evening. Apart from the local dancers, the Malaysian Amateur Latin
and Ballroom Dance Champions Johnston Lim and Nocole Tan are also
expected to perform their moves at the event.
Both aged nineteen have won many competition in Asia and were the
Malaysian Representative to Hanoi Indoor Games in 2009. Three World
Dance Council licensed Adjudicators from Singapore and Malaysian will be
adjudicating the event.
More than hundred and fifty competitors from leading Dance Schools
have already entered this year's competition.
"Dance has become an internationally recognized sport now. It is no
longer a mere pass time activity. Therefore, we want to see dance evolve
as a sport in Sri Lanka and we want to turn it in to a national sport,"
Dharshana Wijeysooriya, the Founder and the President of the Lanka Dance
Sport Council noted.
Adding more exuberance to the event, twenty five junior couples are
also expected to take part in the event. They will compete in
under-sixteen and under twelve categories. "The junior event is expected
to add lots of fun and excitement to the event. It is an event that
everyone should look forward to. We come across uniquely gifted ballroom
and Latin dancers in Sri Lanka everyday. As a body, we want to
collectively nurture their passion and spirit for art and provide them
with a platform that will help them to develop as world class performers
someday," Dharshan commented.
