Nine held for mining sand illegally

Nine persons who had allegedly mined sand illegally and two who had transported the sand were arrested by Special Task Force (STF) officers in Horana during several raids at Doloswala, Nivithigala and Rakwana Ganga area. The STF also seized two lorries, shovels, bamboo baskets and 10 bamboo sticks. The nine suspects are aged between 17 and 25 while and other two are aged 27 and 54.

The raids were carried out by IP Thushara de Silva, Sub Inspector H M de Silva, Sergeant Wikramasingha and nine officers following a tip-off.
