The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide additional finance for
the Northern road connectivity project.

An ADB team arrived in Sri Lanka recently for discussions with the
government on processing a time-line for this.
The ADB team reviewed the ADB funded road project preparatory
facility and met officials of the Finance Ministry External Resources
Department, Ports and Highways Ministry, Local Government and Provincial
Councils Ministry, consultants and development partners.
The ADB's high ranking mission comprised six professionals headed by
transport specialist C Chen.
The lengths of sections of the candidate roads project under
additional financing are Kandy- Jaffna road (9.60 km), Kebithigollewa-
Padaviya road (30.5 km), Medawachchiya- Kebithigollewa road (25.7 km),
Vavuniya- Horowpothana road (10.90 km) and Jaffna- Pannai- Kayts road
(20.30 km) Other candidate road projects in the Northern province are
Akkarayan- Skanthapuram road (3.31 km), Left bank main canal-
Akkarayankulam road (7.06 km), Right bank main cannal (6.60 km), Wilson
road (7.51 km), Kennedy road (7.10 km), approach road to Cattle Farm
(3.35 km), Oddusuddan- Puthukudiyappu- Mathlan road (11.64 km) and
Vattapalai- Keppailavil- Puthukidiyuruppu road (12.85 km).
Thekkawattha- Pulleliya road (5.65 km), Dachchidamana-
Paranahalmillewa road (4.70 km), Kirigollewa- Hirallugama road (11.50
km), Kiriketuwewa- Bandara and Ulpotha-Kapugallewa roads (20.30 km),
Kebithgollewa- Hendagala road (12.9 km), Ethakada- Etambagskada road
(6.80 km) and Yakawewa-Mahakoongaskada road (13.30 km) are the sections
of the connectivity project's roads in the North Central province. |
