"We will have to play attacking cricket and will aim for a whitewash
in the series to go 2-0 up'said a confident skipper Mahela Jayawardena
at the pre match press conference held at the P.Sara stadium yesterday.
"We cant afford to be complacent against a side like England and we
will give our best to win the series 2-0," added Mahela.
He also mentioned that fast bowler Dhammika Prasad will play instead
of injured Chanaka Welegedara while Angelo Mathews will take the place
of Dinesh Chandimal who will consider himself unfortunate to miss out
after two valuable knocks down the order in Galle which helped Sri Lanka
to win the game.
"We are very proud to be part of the 30 year celebration test match
after we gained test status in 1982 against the same opposition at the
same ground," said Mahela.
"We like to play in venues which are advantageous to us and make
maximum use of home advantage," answered Mahela to an English journalist
who asked about the P. Sara wicket which will favor the home team.
When journalists asked why the Sri Lankan players get injured often,
he replied that the Sri Lanka cricket has to rethink about the domestic
structure and that spinners even open the bowling in club games. So that
fast bowlers find it hard to bowl 20-25 overs per day in a test match. |
