Swedish, Sri Lankan arrested
A Swedish expatriate and a Sri Lankan-Swedish dual citizen were
arrested with cannabis, illegally imported tobacco powder and drug
tablets in Hikkaduwa on Sunday.
Police Galle division operation room officers handed the two suspects
to Hikkaduwa Police for further action.
Student arrested for theft
A 15 year student was arrested for stealing Rs 177,450 worth items
from a house in Periyagamama in Mannar.
The suspect had broke into the house and run away with a laptop
computer , computer accessories and three mobile phones. Police have
seized the stolen goods from his possession.
Mannar Police are investigating.
Ex-soldier nabbed with grenade
An-exserviceman was arrested with a foreign made grenade at
Kaluwagaswila in Nittabuwa on Sunday. Police also found a stock of Army
uniforms in his possession. Nittambuwa Police are investigating.
Boy and journalist drown
Police on Sunday found the body of a youth who was drowned after
falling from Bopath Ella in Kuruwita on March 31.
Sampath Wijepala of Namaldeniya, Parakaduwa was sightseeing with a
friend when he fell down the waterfall last Saturday.
Kuruwita police are investigating.
A journalist was drowned while bathing in Ging Ganga at Ihala
Nagoda in Nagoda on Sunday.
Police said the victim, Chandrasiri Katapearachchi of Labuduwa was a
journalist by profession . The body was kept in Karapitiya hospital
morgue for post mortem.
Jumbo kills woman
A woman succumbed to her injuries after an elephant attack at
Indigollagama in Galkiriyagama on Sunday evening. The victim, Prema
Damayanthi of Rambawala was on her way to the village boutique when she
was attacked.
