Zero charges for 20 pc drop in earlier bill

The Power and Energy Ministry launched a special programme for domestic electricity consumers under the ‘Today for Tomorrow’ national programme in collaboration with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Lanka Electricity Company (LECO) . The entire 4.6 million domestic electricity consumers in Sri Lanka can participate in this programme.

They will receive the opportunity of having free electricity for one month on reducing their electricity bills by 20 percent. This programme has been activated from April 1. Those who have a reduced March electricity bill by 20 percent compared to April will receive free electricity for one month. Those who have their bill reduced by 10 percent will receive a 50 percent discount in the next bill, a ministry release said.

One thousand winners in the first category and 5,000 winners in the second category will be eligible for this bonanza of getting free electricity and 50 percent discount on bill selected by a draw. The concession will be valid only for April, May and June. Registration opened from April 1. Anyone can register by sending an SMS. CEB consumers should type their SMS as L - CEB Acct. No. (10 digits) and send it to 0114 338338. LECO consumers should type their SMS as ecs - LECO Account No. (10 digits) and send to 071-4643643. The public can obtain further details about this programme from CEB or LECO divisional offices or by calling 1901,1987,1910
