'Conspiracy to topple goverment'

The Socialist Alliance said that there is a conspiracy against Sri Lanka by America to topple the present regime for America's own benefit. This was disclosed by Socialist Alliance at a media conference held yesterday.

"There is an attempt by America to change the regime in Sri Lanka and establish a regime favourable to them. We must understand that they are trying to use human rights as their weapon and excuse to interfere with Sri Lankan affairs and pressure Sri Lanka," said Lanka Sama Samaja Party General Secretary, Prof. Tissa Vitarana.

He said that all must unite as Sri Lankans and resist America's sinister attempts. Prof. Vitarana also added that America tries to seek a regime echange by weakening Sri Lanka economically.

He said that there is also an attempt to attack Sri Lankan leaders through legal means such as the Darusman Report. Channel 4 was another shameful attempt to destabilize Sri Lanka and steal its new found freedom. America is a major arms dealer profiting from wars. "wars between other countries are the economic gain of major arms brokers and therefore peace is undesirable to them," stated Prof. Vitarana.

Communist Party General Secretary, D.E.W. Gunasekera said that when we can't solve our own problems we are exploited internationally. "Countries have been ruined because of this. America has an ulterior motive. We don't hate them, but we recognize their ulterior motives. It is of paramount importance that we implement the LLRC report as fully as possible and effectively and without delay. We must not leave room for foreign opponents to exploit any delays and shortcomings," he said.
