Body washed ashore
A naked body of a man was found at Periyapaduwa beach in Mundalama on
Saturday by Mundalama Police. The victim about 5.6 feet in height with
fair and short hair appears to be aged between 40 and 45. The body is
lying at the Chilaw Hospital morgue. Mundalam Police are investigating.
Nabbed with heroin
Four suspects, including three men and a woman, were taken into
custody with 33 grammes of heroin in Ratmalana and Panadura by the Mount
Lavinia Criminal Investigation Unit on Saturday. They were to be
produced before Mount Lavinia magistrate yesterday.
Man nabbed over wire roll theft
A man was arrested for stealing a roll of telephone wire worth nearly
Rs 400,000 by Kotadeniyawa Police on Thursday. The suspect, an employer
in a private firm in Badalgama, had stolen the roll of wire, a property
of his workplace on March 17. The Police seized the stolen goods from
his possession. The suspect produced before Minuwangoda magistrate was
granted bail.
Drunken fisherman drowns
A fisherman who dived into the sea in search of his mobile phone died
on admission to Trincomalee Hospital on Saturday. The Police said W M
Rohana, a resident of Matara had been fishing in Trincomalee when he
faced the mishap. The victim who was drunk at that time had been using
his mobile phone sitting on the edge of the fishing boat anchored at Cod
Bay fishing harbour when his phone fell into the water. He had then
jumped into the sea and become unconscious. Trincomalee Police are
investigating. |
