Sayura FM the first FM service in the world which has dedicated
itself to the fisheries community celebrates its first anniversary
today. This channel provides information, knowledge and entertainment
beneficial to the fisheries community and was launched by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa to coincide with the opening of the Peliyagoda Central
Fish Market complex.
This radio channel is established according to a concept of Fisheries
and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne.
The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) assisted the ministry
in this task. It airs programmes daily from midnight to 4.00 am with the
sponsorship of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry,
under SLBC assistance. The Sayura FM had been established with the aim
of providing information, knowledge and guidance the fisheries community
on weather conditions and it has helped fishermen who are in the deep
sea to communicate with their families, from its inception last year.
This radio channel has also helped the fisheries community to acquire
knowledge on modern technology in the fisheries field and instructs to
increase the fish harvest while using modern methods. Sayura FM will
usher a great change in the fisheries field. |
